Brittany: Bird Dog and Loyal Family Friend
Primarily bred to be used for bird hunting, the Brittany, was first developed in France over 200 years ago. The Brittany is solidly built, but compact and quite athletic. The Brittany is also referred to as a spaniel, but actually has more of the characteristics of a setter or even a pointer. The Brittany has long legs and has a distinctive gait. Some of the Brittany breed are born with short tails, while others have rather long tails. Most owners choose to shorten or dock the longer tails. While their most common coloring pattern is white with orange patches, some Brittanies may be black and white colored or even liver and white.
Although, the Brittany is known for being easily trained, they are a breed that is very eager to please and it's better to use positive reinforcement methods rather than punishment to get the best results when training your Brittany. These are fantastic family dogs as their sweet-natures and sensitive demeanor make them an excellent choice for a house with children. The Brittany has a high energy level and will have no problem keeping up with rambunctious children running and playing. Brittanies also get along very well with other dogs; which is why some owners decide to become a two or three dog family.
