This usually solid head colored and spotted body breed hails from its birth country of Germany. Made by crossbreeding the Spanish Pointer with various hound breeds, the German Shorthaired Pointer is one of the most favored canines by active dog owners today. Their color tones and patterns are remarkable, but can cause this Pointer to be disqualified from entering certain events due to certain colors of their coat.
First bred for hunting, these "gun dogs" are a very smart and loving breed. For some time, these dogs were stereotyped as aggressive towards mainly humans, fearless, some were thought to be shy, all of which are fallacies. Although due to the German Pointer's hunting nature, having cats and other small animals in the home can tend to be difficult if introduced to the home after the dog is an adult as it is a breed that is always on alert.
